What are these CSA’s all these overall-clad-dirty-boot-wearing-farmer-tanned people talking about? Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a model of food production and distribution that connects farmers and consumers within the food system. CSA is a partnership between farmers and consumers, where consumers pledge mutual support to a farm operation and share the risks and benefits of food production. CSA has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer.
But did you know that CSA can also provide locally grown flowers all growing season long? By joining our floral CSA (The Tulip Club), you can support us, your local Qualicum Beach farmers, while enjoying fresh, beautiful blooms in your home or office.
Our Tulip Club CSA works similarly to traditional vegetable CSAs. Members purchase a share of our harvest in advance, which provides us with the funds we need to grow our crops. In return, members receive regular deliveries of fresh flowers throughout the growing season. We will also be launching our Bouquet Club soon which includes weekly bouquet subscriptions throughout the summer growing season. The summertime Bouquet Club will be starting once we have a consistent supply of beautiful blooms to make big luscious mixed bouquets.

One of the benefits of joining a flower CSA is that you get access to unique varieties of flowers that may not be available at your local grocery store or florist. You also get to enjoy flowers that are freshly picked and haven’t been shipped from far away. You are able to help protect the environment by reducing the need for flower imports and exposure to harmful pesticides. Global regulations are lacking when it comes to the spraying of flowers with pesticides and preservatives as compared to food, but that is a topic for another entire post of its own.

Another benefit is that by supporting local farmers through a floral CSA, you’re helping to build community resilience. When you buy from local farmers, you’re keeping money in your community and supporting small businesses. This helps to create stronger communities with more vibrant economies.
In addition to supporting local farmers and enjoying beautiful blooms all season long, joining a flower CSA can also be an opportunity for learning about different types of flowers and how they grow. We will be extending exclusive offers to our members for workshops and info sessions where members can learn more about flower cultivation, care and design.
So if you’re looking for a way to support your friendly neighbourhood flower farmers while enjoying fresh, locally grown blooms all season long, consider joining the Tulip Club! Not only will you be getting beautiful bouquets for your home or office, but you’ll also be contributing to the health and resilience of your community here on Vancouver Island.
